Ideas for being a Good Neighbor

Prayer is our first response. Spend time praying and asking God to open your eyes to see the need and respond.

In Your Neighborhood

In Your Neighborhood

  • Meet New Neighbors: Introduce yourself to someone you haven’t met yet. Bonus points if you bring a batch of cookies!
  • Pray: When you see a way to respond with prayer, ask your neighbor if you can pray with them for a specific need.
  • Practical acts of kindness: Feed the neighbor kids lunch when you prepare lunch for your kids, bring in their trash cans, mow their lawn, or bring them a coffee.
  • Share: Do what Jesus did by sharing your faith with someone.

At Your Workplace or School

At Your Workplace or School

  • Write Thank You Notes: Write a thank you note to a colleague or classmate who has made a positive impact.
  • Give Public Recognition: Make it a point to celebrate the achievements of your team publicly, whether you are in a leadership or peer position.
  • Linger: Slow Down and create space to learn about a coworker or classmate that is different than you.

  • Learn Names: Take a moment to get to know the names of those you interact with regularly, like the barista, grocery store checker, or bank teller.
  • Express Gratitude: Write a thank you note to your dentist, family doctor, or other who serve you.
  • Connect Over Coffee or a Meal: Revisit old friendships with a meaningful coffee or invite a new friend over for a meal, and listen deeply to their stories.
  • Respond: Lean towards a passion or injustice that upsets you and find a place to serve that meets that need.
  • Community Care: Pick up a piece of trash, return a stray shopping cart, tip generously or create a hygiene kit for unhoused neighbors. Email Rebekah@millcitychurch.org for additional information.
  • Serve in Your City: Research opportunities to meet needs in places like food pantries, shelters, and resource centers.

Beyond Northern Colorado

Beyond Northern Colorado

  • Send Encouragement: Text an uplifting message to a friend or send a letter in the mail.
  • Pray for Mission Partners: Pray for missionaries around the world and for our local and global missions partners. For more information, please email rebekah@millcitychurch.org.
