Women of Mill City Church,

In ‘The Velveteen Rabbit’ Margery Williams describes becoming “real” this way, ‘You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.'”

It is such a gift to be surrounded by real women. Woman who have walked in the depths with Jesus. Women who have raised babies and are now navigating parenting adults. Women who have sat on the floor and cried with an understanding that sorrow is not despair. Women who have shared their exceptional recipes with me and laughed becauseĀ I didn’t execute quite the same. Women with beauty and an ear tuned to hear the Holy Spirit. Women who are inclusive and kind and have cared to become the best version of themselves, the version of themselves that is closest to Jesus.

I am better because of the women in my world, and I belong with them. In some ways I belong to them. And sweet ones, I care that you know you belong here too. There is a space for you. Space for all that you are and all that you bring. We would love for you to join this band of women. We would love to invite you to Sisterhood.

My friends, God meets us where we are, not where we think we should be or where we would prefer to be. My desire is for us all to be real with Him and one another. To engage in the beautiful, messy, sorrowful and lovely parts of life together. I hope we love each other until our eyes drop out and we get loose in the joints. I believe our first step is showing up, choosing to believe that we are beloved and we belong. We would love to spend time with you at our first ever women’s event called Sisterhood. Mark your calendars February 1st and 2nd and we will gather together to laugh, worship, dig into the word and expect the Holy Spirit to move.
